Administrative/Biographical history:

The Chief Engineer was responsible for overseeing construction and maintenance of LCC buildings, bridges, roads and tunnels. He was also responsible for flood prevention measures, drainage and sewerage and other matters of public health.

Scope and content/abstract:

Records of the London County Council Chief Engineer's Department, including reports, correspondence, press cuttings, committee papers, maintenance arrangements, sail plan, rigging plan, site and dock plans, artist's perspective drawings and numbered drawings relating to the installation of the Cutty Sark at dry dock in Greenwich, 1952-1958; pamphlet "Particulars of machinery at L.C.C installations", 1905; pamphlet "Your job of work in the Chief Engineer's Dept", 1953 (revised 1955); and certificates of class and machinery of the Council's ships, ferry boats and sludge vessels, 1889-1965.
