Administrative/Biographical history:

Malayalam Plantations Limited was registered in 1921 to reconstitute Malayalam Rubber and Produce Company Limited (registered in August 1909 to acquire properties in southern India). In 1923 Malayalam Plantations Limited acquired East India Tea and Produce Company, Meppadi Wynaad Tea Company and Wallardie Tea Estates Limited. In 1928 it acquired Mooply Valley Rubber Company Limited.

In 1977 Malayalam Plantations Limited was taken over by Malayalam Plantations (Holdings) Limited (CLC/B/112-112). For lists of the company's estates see CLC/B/112/MS37071. See also CLC/B/112/MS38066 for plans of the company's estates.

Records of Malayalam Plantations Limited, including articles of association, minute books, annual reports, financial accounts, circulars to shareholders, inventories, and photographs of operations on the tea estates.

Immediate source of acquisition:

The records of Harrisons and Crosfield and its subsidiary and secretarial companies were transferred to Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section between 1990 and 1998. The records were presented as a gift to the Library, except the minute books of some subsidiary companies which are held as a deposit. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
