ARCHIVAL INFORMATION
Archival history:
Immediate source of acquisition:
Records covering the life assurance business only, consisting primarily of policy registers, were deposited by Legal and General Assurance in the Manuscripts Section of Guildhall Library on 22 September 1977. These records were withdrawn by the depositor on 31 August 1990 and returned to the Manuscripts Section, as a gift, on 19 January 1996, along with the main archive of the Company, (except the board minutes, which were a deposit rather than a gift), at which point it was decided that a sample of only two volumes of building society policy registers would be kept out of an original series of 106 volumes (Ms 18478). The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
