CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history:

The Central File was created after the Registrar's Office was dissolved in 1901.The main task of the Central File was to file correspondence of the University. After World War Two the Central File was renamed the Central Registry. Sometime during the mid-1980s the Central Registry ceased.

CONTENT

Scope and content/abstract:

The collection contains University Correspondence for sessions 1900-1939 (CF 1). The correspondence files are arranged chronologically by subject. The collection also contains correspondence and papers relating to University of London Press and Printing (CF 2). These records relate chiefly to the University's dealings with the University of London Press.

Open except for records exempt under the Data Protection Act or the Freedom of Information Act. Access to the records for the purposes of private study and personal research is possible within the controlled environment and restrictions of the Library's Palaeography Room. Copies may be made, subject to the condition of the original. Copying must be undertaken by the Palaeography Room staff, who will need a minimum of 24 hours to process requests.
