CONTEXT

Administrative/Biographical history:

James Jardine was born in Applegarth, Dumfriesshire, and educated in Dumfries and Edinburgh. By 1809 he was practising as a civil engineer in Edinburgh and subsequently became well known for his work both in that city and elsewhere. He was a member of Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Geological Society, the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Society of Civil Engineers, and served as a Director of the Edinburgh Astronomical Institution.

Scope and content/abstract:

Letter from James Jardine of Hanover Street, [Edinburgh] to Robert Stephenson, Esq, civil engineer of Baxter Place, [Edinburgh], 25 Jun 1825. Replying to a note from Stephenson, agreeing to meet at 10 o'clock on Monday at Stockbridge on Lord Moray's ground; reminding Stephenson to give notices to the agents, and have the plan with the levels marked, ready to be inspected on the spot. Autograph, with signature.
