This volume is one of a few typed copies of Miss Nellie Insley's account, written in 1915, with a 'Prefatory Note' by Henry Curtis, FRCS, written in 1923 giving both details of Miss Insley and her family and a note on the subsequent history of the hospital at St Malo.

'The story of a great adventure. The history of the foundation of the English Hospital for French Soldiers, at the Old Chateau at St Malo, September 1914, transferred March 1915 to the Grand Hotel des Greves now known as the Hospital Notre Dame des Greves, St Malo, 1915.'

This volume was found in the strongroom of the Wellcome Institute Library in 1977 and accessioned as a Western Manuscript. It had been given to the Library by S W Brown, Esq., at some unspecified date. It was transferred to the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre in 1980.
