Founded in 1929 as the National Ophthalmic Treatment Board Association (NOTBA) to organise eye examinations by medically qualified practitioners. NOTBA changed it's name to the Medical Eye Centre Association (MECA), which ended in 1990.

Papers of the Medical Eye Centre Association (MECA), 1928-1990, comprising minutes, 1928-1990; reports; newsletters; membership lists; subject files including records relating to the administration of Medical Eye Centres; correspondence with other bodies, including correspondence relating to legislation; publicity material including posters; and publicity material relating to the National Eye Service.

Please note that material may be unsuitable for copying on conservation grounds, and that photographs cannot be photocopied in any circumstances. Readers are restricted to 100 photocopies in twelve months.
