Publications: Organic Psychiatry: the psychological consequences of cerebral disorder (1st edition 1978, 2nd edition 1987, 3rd edition 1997). Lishman was approached by Blackwells Scientific Publications and encouraged by Sir Aubrey Lewis, Chair of Psychiatry at the Institute of Phychiatry to write a textbook on the organic basis to mental disease. The result was Organic Psychiatry, a seminal text in the fields of neurology and psychiatry. At the time of writing it is still widely used in the teaching of medicine and is part of the Neuropsychiatry training pack.
CONTENT
Scope and content/abstract:
The papers of William Lishman, [1980-1997], comprising material relating to 3rd edition of Organic Psychiatry, an interview with Lishman and papers relating to a training pack on neuropsychiatry. The collection includes inserts, galley proofs and a copy of the 2nd edition of Organic Psychiatry all used in Lishman's rewriting for the 3rd edition of Organic Psychiatry, published in 1997 with several drafts of a section on Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), the largest addition to the 3rd edition. Also includes interview with Lishman on his life and career and papers relating to the Neuropsychiatry training pack including the pack itself and papers of its writer, Dr Steven Church, relating to its creation.
