Administrative/Biographical history:
Frank Smallwood taught for 44 years (1911-1955) at Sir Walter St John's School, Battersea. When he retired, he was invited to write a history of the school, which was founded in 1700. He collected much information about the school over the period 1955-1970 but then his interests moved away from the school to the St John family and the local history of Battersea.

Papers of Frank Smallwood relating to the history of Sir Walter Saint John's School, Battersea. These papers mainly relate to the history of the school, although some do contain extensive information about the St John family and Battersea. They show how a historian set about working on the subject and what a great variety of sources exist.
