The companies listed in this collection had several connections, such as shared premises and directors.
They had ceased trading or had become holding or investment companies by 1982 when those that survived became subsidiaries of the Caparo Group Limited.

Scope and content/abstract:
Records of various tea or rubber companies, all later purchased by the Caparo Group. There are no records of Caparo Group Limited itself. The archives are catalogued under the names of the individual companies within the group. The companies are:
Assam Frontier Tea Company;
Budla Beta Tea Company;
Dooars Tea Company;
Empire of India and Ceylon Tea Company;
Empire of India Holdings Limited;
Lanka Plantation Company;
Oriental Rubber Company;
Singlo Tea Company;
Singlo Holdings Limited.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The Caparo Group took over the archives of both surviving and defunct companies and donated them to Guildhall Library in 1982. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
