Archival Information

Archival history:

Testing and production records were found in the stable block of Queensbury Lodge and transferred in 1994. They had damage from damp and insects, and required clearning and some repair. Many records were destroyed when LIPMs Chelsea site was bombed during the war. The papers of Sir Charles J Martin, Director of LIPM (1903-1930), were transferred to the Australian Academy of Sciences, Canberra.

Immediate source of acquisition:

Papers received from the LIPM in 1985. Photocopied letters of Lord Lister were acquired in 1987. Testing and production records were transferred from Queensbury Lodge in 1994. Additional material has been donated by former members of staff, including Professor Leslie Collier, Dr Leon Vallet and Dr Jean Dolby.

Allied Materials

Related material:

A number of framed engravings and photographs were transferred to the Wellcome Institute in 1985 and are in the care of the Iconographic Department.

Some of the books and a set of Collected Papers from the LIPM library were transferred to the Royal College of Pathologists in 1980. For accounts of the research undertaken at the LIPM, see War on Disease Chick, Hume and Macfarlane.
