Context
Administrative/Biographical history:
Dr Dobbie qualified in medicine in 1933. He was (presumably during and just after the war) in the RAMC, in which he reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and was O.C. Medical Division 117 and 77 General Hospital, BAOR. He was subsequently in practice in Bromley. Although his entry disappears from the Medical Directory in 1987 it has not been possible to trace any obituary.

Scope and content/abstract:
Papers of Dr David Dobbie, 1943, comprising notes on tropical medicine, made in Army Field Message Book, 1943. Divided into sections on Malaria; Amoebiasis; Relapsing Fever; Leishmaniasis; Typhoid; Vitamin B deficiency; Ancylostomiasis; Schistosmiasis; Infective hepatitis; Smallpox; Typhus; Virus diseases (CNS); Effort syndrome; Plague; Deficiency malnutrition and Differential diagnosis of certain fevers. Possibly compiled while taking a course on the subject.

Immediate source of acquisition:
This notebook was received via Dr Lindsay Granshaw of the Academic Unit of the Wellcome Institute from a Mr R W Rimmer of Croydon in 1984. It had been acquired with a collection of medical books cleared from Dr Dobbie's house given to Mr Rimmer's son, a doctor himself.
